VIDEO: Conference Time For MCTC

Ship managers are wasting money on unnecessary costs in dismissals and food wastage in their ships’ galleys, Christian Ioannou, Managing Director of catering training provider MCTC, told delegates a t the Tanker Operator conference  in Hamburg.

Marine Catering Training Consultancy (MCTC), based in Limassol, Cyprus, trains catering crews from all over the world in all types of cuisine, through onboard distance coaching and onshore programmes at its training establishment in Makati, The Phillippines.

Mr Ioannou spoke at the Tanker Operator Conference where speakers debated maintaining staff passion, adopting new technology and cyber security.

Food is one of the biggest motivating factors for seafarers but there is still an industry-wide lack of nutritional knowledge within galley staff. This leads to Owners and Managers incurring further expenses through food waste, staff dismissals of under-qualified catering employees and bad health among crew member s, Mr Ioannou explained.

Through employing trained and skilled catering crew members, Managers could reduce their galley expenses dramatically by reducing food waste and performance dismissals, effective menu planning and good time management.

MCTC also spoke about its new Galley Management System that it is currently in the process of developing. The software will work alongside the cooks in the galley to assist them in the day-to-day duties of running a galley onboard a ship.
